A guitar used on ‘Viva La Vida’ album went under the hammer for Kids Company

Coldplay have raised £251,482 for charity Kids Company in an eBay auction.

As previously reported, a range of Coldplay memorabilia went under the hammer in the band’s End Of Decade Clearout Sale, which ended on December 31.

Among the catalogue was Jonny Buckland’s Viva Thinline ‘72 Tele guitar, which fetched £15,000, and an outfit worn by Chris Martin in the band’s ‘Strawberry Swing’ video.  … read more »

Coldplay are selling ten years’ worth of band memorabilia to help vulnerable young people.

The band’s ‘End Of Decade’ auction will get underway on December 17 on eBay and will include items such as instruments, stage equipment, costumes from the ‘Vida La Viva’ tour and platinum discs.

Cash raised from the sale, which runs until 5pm GMT on December 31, will go to Kids Company, which the group described on their website as “an incredible charity that helps vulnerable children and young people in London”.

Coldplay are recording a new album in an abandoned London church.

Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion are worried they’ve become a “stadium band” and are keen to get back to their roots with a “stripped-down acoustic album”.

To help them get in the mood, they have shunned their usual lavish headquarters in London’s Primrose Hill and holed themselves up in the dilapidated chapel.

A source said: “Chris is determined not to be seen as a huge commercial rock juggernaut, filling stadiums and cashing in. The plan is to keep them as close to their fans as possible. The boys have thrown themselves into the new album and the results are really exciting so far.”   … read more »

Coldplay are already planning to start recording demos for their fifth album, while they are on a temporary break.

Having just wrapped up their world tour (well for now – they’ll head out to South America next month), Chris Martin and Co. are eager to get back to work on the follow-up to 2008’s ‘Viva La Vida’.

“They have got a huge reserve of ideas together during their time on the road and they want to get the demos down while they are fresh.” A source close to Coldplay told The Sun.

“They are already excited about the next project.”
